Hurricane Rita victims, take notice. Either sue now, or forever hold your peace.

The latter-- peace-- is anathema to John Steven Mostyn, otherwise known as the most prolific Rita lawsuit purveyor in Jefferson County. Since the hurricane made landfall in September 2005, he's been pitching Golden Triangle homeowners on the benefits of taking your insurer to court.

Former paralegal at Houston law firm files FLSA suit

A former paralegal at the Mostyn Law Firm in Houston filed a complaint in federal court on Aug. 3 alleging the firm failed to pay her and others at an overtime rate when the firm “required and/or permitted” her and others to work more than 40 hours a week. In Sherri L. Davis v. Mostyn Law Firm P.C., filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Davis seeks class-action status for the complaint.

Class certification granted in paralegals' overtime suit against Mostyn firm

HOUSTON - A group of paralegals seeking overtime pay from the Mostyn Law Firm has received conditional class certification from a federal judge.

Lead plaintiff Sherri Davis says the law firm of Steven Mostyn denied overtime pay to paralegals who worked more than 40 hours in a week in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

On Jan. 19, U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison of the Southern District of Texas granted certification for a class of current and former salaried paralegals going back to Aug. 3, 2008.

With Houston trial lawyer Steve Mostyn's money, mostly, the House Democratic Campaign Committee is working furiously to protect Democratic state reps and put a few challengers over the top.

The law firm of Mostyn provided 79 percent of the nearly $950,000 that the group raised between Sept. 24 and Oct. 23, according to its latest money report.

Hurricanes are divided into five categories, depending on the force of their winds. To be considered a hurricane, a tropical storm must have sustained winds of at least 75 mph. A Category 5 hurricane, the fiercest of all, boasts winds exceeding 155 mph.At its worst, Ike was a Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of 145 mph, but had subsided to a Category 2 by the time it hit Galveston - and thank goodness for that.High winds weren't the only thing unleashed on Southeast Texas by Hurricane Ike.
